Keller is using 3 of its Junttan PM25 driven piling rigs to install approximately 4,500 precast piles, each to a maximum of 30m depth. Each rig is equipped with NDT instrumentation which provides the operator with real-time monitoring of pile depth, penetration rate, hammer blow count, hammer drop height, pile set, driving resistance and pile stresses. As well as providing this vital information during the piling process, the on-board instrumentation means a 'Safety First' exclusion zone can be maintained around the rig whilst pile driving is taking place. Keller staff can use any device with a web-browser to monitor the piling works in near real-time from any global location using NDT's groundbreaking 'NDTDataCloud' application. During his recent flying visit to Brisbane, Tom spent some very productive time in the classroom with Wagstaff Piling's fitters and electricians, running through the component parts and operation of the PL3000/CFA system. The air-conditioned building provided welcome relief from the outside temperature and humidity and enabled us, in comfort, to provide specialist assistance and advice on the installation, maintenance and most effective use of their rig instrumentation. On driven piling rigs without instrumentation, the banksman is required to measure the set manually towards the end of driving on each pile. This means being in close proximity to the pile and pile driving hammer whilst it is in operation - potentially, a very hazardous area. In addition to displays of real time depth, driving resistance and driving stresses, our PL3000 Driven instrumentation systems automatically measure and record the drop height and pile set for each and every blow as the pile is driven. This allows personnel to stay well clear of the pile and rig as the pile is driven.
